Colourizing

With black and white photographs and images, Photoshop is an endless playground of tools and possibilities. With all these tools at our disposal, Colourising an image can be simple, yet very effective and realistic. With some extreme examples of colourisation being films or footage being colorized frame by frame (such as Peter Jacksons World War One remastered colourised footage), we may also attempt this technique with one still image in black and white with Adobe Photoshop.

Importing a black and white image into photosho, we can duplicate the background layer to protect our original image by building on top of it and now we can make a new layer above the duplicated background. once we have this new layer selected, we can change our layer blending mode to Soft Light and using the brush tool now, we can paint over any of the image and now our image is being coloured.

We can use other blending options to get the effect we want, as the blending modes are Blending options, some may be more apt for going over shadows and some may be more situational than others.
